Volunteering is often a great gateway to obtaining a full clinical placement. During your hospital work experience, you should try to get as much variety as possible. A hospital placement is a great opportunity to learn what a ward round is like and to shadow to a doctor for a day.

Hospitals and hospices are both fantastic places to carry out medical work experience. It is essential to be committed and dedicated during your placement and ensure you utilise every opportunity to learn more about Medicine.

Getting Hospital Work Experience

Organising hospital work experience can be challenging for many reasons but in particular due to issues with your age and placements being worried about the confidentially of their patients.

If you have any family or friends with contacts in the medical field, try approaching these people to see if they could help you organise a hopsital work experience placement. The field of medicine they work in may not be the field you are interested in but this isn’t important. The most important thing is to learn as much as you can about medicine regardless of where you experience it.
